               Time Doesn't Heal All Wounds.
                     EMDR Can Help.

When bad things happen, it can take a while to feel safe again.

Often, traumatic or disturbing events get locked in the brain with the original picture, sounds, thoughts and feelings. This is due to the way the memory was stored in the brain. Trauma can leave you struggling with upsetting emotions, memories, panic attacks, rage,  anxiety, chronic pain or depression that won't go away. It can leave you feeling afraid, helpless, numb and disconnected. It may affect your ability to trust others. These are really the emotions connected with the old experience that are being triggered and re-played on loop.

EMDR is a widely supported, effective form of psychotherapy for trauma. It allows the brain to resume the natural healing process through a combination of talk therapy and bilateral eye movements, tapping or sounds. During EMDR the memory is reprocessed and filed away into long term memory storage. The memory itself won't change, it just produces less of an emotional impact. The important thing to remember in EMDR is that it is your own brain that will be doing the healing and that you are the one in control.

EMDR is an 8 phase approach that works quickly and efficiently. Each session is 90 minutes in length. It can be used online and the results are lasting. I have been extensively trained as a specialized EMDR therapist through CompassionWorks, an EMDRIA-approved program. To learn more about EMDR, visit www.emdria.com or contact me with questions.
